ABOUT THE SHOWA hard-hitting musical set in a South American prison where torture and deprivation are the norm. The two cellmates, Valentin and Molina, are absolute opposites. The former is a revolutionist publishing dissent, the latter is a gay window-dresser, but both help one another to survive the brutal regime. Then there is the mysterious Spiderwoman ... The terrific music and lyrics written by Kander & Ebb (who also wrote the wonderful show 'Chicago'), and the tight script by Terence McNally, make this a remarkable piece of theatre. It will be a challenging and rewarding experience for every individual member taking part.

Needs to be commanding. 35+ ESTABAN/ (chorus) … Prison Guard, 25 - MARCOS/ (chorus) … Prison Guard, any age. SPIDERWOMAN/AURORA. Both parts ideally to be played by the same woman. Large singing role. Age 40+ MOLINA’S MOTHER … a solo/ensemble. Age dependant on casting of Molina, but could 40+ MARTA … Valentin’s girlfriend. Age dependent on casting of Valentin. Solo spots in ensemble and a duo with Aurora. GABRIEL/ Prisoner. Age 20+ . has a solo. Cameos; Escaping prisoner, religious fanatic, Amnesty International Observer, Prisoner Fuentes, Window Dresser at Montoya’s. These roles will be allotted when we start rehearsals, There will be a chorus of eight men(including Esteban and Marcos) and six women. Playing prisoners, Aurora’s staff and movie characters in the fantasy scenes.
